This bug had created havoc once it was discovered since it allows hackers to easily access sensitive data. OpenSSL is an open source software that provides secure communication over the internet. However, it was managed by only a handful few with meager funds to develop and maintain.
Following the bug scare, Linux Foundation launched the Core Infrastructure Initiative (CII), which will now fund projects such as OpenSSL. Other bigwigs who have swore their financial support include Cisco, Facebook, Dell, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Google, and VMware.
