As we all aware that now days data can freely flows anywhere in the world. By considering this recently a survey released by Microsoft in the month of Data Protection Day shows the privacy protection attitudes of the technology shaped people of US and four other European courtiers named Belgium, France, Germany and UK. According to this online survey it has been cited that most of the technology elite’ people envisioned, they have about 50 percent personal control over the way their information is used online. In fact people are very much interested and curious to know this how their information is being used specially the Americans who make all possible efforts to control the privacy tradeoff for their routine online activities such as shopping, banking, social networking apps, online games, managing health records online as compared to Europeans.
Although the majorities in both the countries accepted that most of the time they just give a glance on these privacy commitments documents or simply accept the terms and conditions without reading the details. Some says that we scan through the statements of privacy control and may read through a few lines and generally tend to accept.
So, Here the question comes whose responsibility is this to protecting your online privacy? Is it the Individuals, companies or the Government? Reports state that in both the countries out of three, the greater role is to be taken by the government to protect the online privacy. Near about 46% in US and 40% in Europe, rest is to be divided in balance proportionate among individuals and companies.
Technology savvy people concluded that, there are many ways that technology companies could help to protect the privacy of the people:
- They have given high rating to the point that there should be an innovative high ended automatic privacy protection.
- There should be a clear transparency about how information is collected, shared and protected in various online activities. A complete and clear picture should be provided for the user that with whom their data is being shared, what type of data is being collected by them and how it has being used.
- Last but not least there should be a simple Privacy controls which should be understand by the people easily.
