CrowdStrike reported that ‘Deep Panda’ is the name of the group that is spying US for tis finance, defense, Southeast Asian and other matters. Dmitri Alperovitch, co-founder, CrowdStrike said that he is confident that the hacking group was employed by the Chinese government but he could not provide any solid proof for the same. He added that on June 18 when the Islamic State Of Iraq (ISIS) or the rebel group attacked oil refinery in Iraq, the hackers suddenly began the search on the US experts and think tanks on the region.
The reason behind Chinese deep interest in the region is that it is the top most investor in oil infrastructure of Iraq while Iraq is the 5th largest crude oil source for China. Alpervitch reported that there seems to be good control of the Chinese government over this hacking group. He could not pin point the think tanks relying on CrowdStrike’s free analysis but said that it has many US government officers as its staff members and as succeeded in generating trustworthy reports on the hacking groups operating overseas.
